Sophmore Summer 2015

Location: Lorimer Street, Willamsburg

15.30.08: This was the last day that my parents ever opened their store. Petes Candy Store had thrown us a goodbye party that night (& made me a pretty bomb LI Iced Tea) & it was just good vibes all around.

This summer was so emotional and the most special summer of my life. Working for my parents made me realize how much they sacrificed for me the past 20 years. From when they first opened, when they didn't even have an AC in the summer (& shit does it get f'ing hot behind the counters in the summer...) and having to open until like 11PM (when they opened at like...4AM) just to make an extra $20 or so so they can buy me diapers... it was all put into perspective. When I saw the store completely empty on this day, I had to hold back from crying so much. It was insane how a store that looked SO small (due to all the stuff that was in it) suddenly looked so spacious and big.
In retrospect, I miss my parents having their own store. My WHOLE life they've had this, and when it closed and it was time to buy things like eggs, milk, cereal, coffee, drinks...it was so weird. Because I would just go to the store and grab it off the shelf-no second thought. It was so comfortable.
No more breakfast sandwiches/sandwiches in general. No more munchies. No more drinks...
Hope this landowner gets hit by karma so hard for fucking us over.
But cheers to THE best summer of all time. No vacation, no event can EVER top the feeling I had after this summer.
